City Pages announced a new annual downtown music festival, 10 Thousand Sounds, will take place Saturday, June 22, 2013 in Minneapolis, the hub of the vibrant Twin Cities music scene.
The single-stage, outdoor event presented by Coldwell Banker Burnet will be held near Eighth Street and Hennepin Avenue from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. and offer a multi-genre lineup anchored by the Walkmen and Free Energy. With a wide range of local talent rounding out the bill, the festival is sure to offer Minnesotans an eclectic, energized evening of live music.
"This lineup is just plain stacked," says Reed Fischer, City Pages' Music Editor. "Not only are the Walkmen among the most critically lauded and nattily dressed in indie rock, but their concerts are brutally beautiful. Free Energy's new album, Love Sign, is as hook-laden as a pro fisherman's tackle box, and the guys bring an unbridled party vibe to the day."
Fischer is no less enthused with the handpicked Minnesota talent that will lead off the day.
"Locally, I'm ecstatic that we could assemble Greg Grease, Strange Names, Prissy Clerks, and our 2012 Picked to Click winner, the Chalice," Fischer says. "It's a group of fiercely driven artists who all know how to ignite a crowd."
With the artists performing near local music landmarks, the buzzing downtown atmosphere will offer a unique backdrop for the alt-weekly's music festival, an endeavor they plan to grow after its launch in 2013.
"City Pages is a go-to-guide for local music lovers," Holly Hunt, City Pages' Marketing Director, says. "Our goal with this year's festival is not only to enhance our readers' experience, but to establish a footprint we can expand on in years to come."
Festival-goers can enjoy the inaugural event by purchasing a general admission wristband for $20 in advance or $25 at the door, or a VIP wristband for $45. The upgrade to VIP will offer attendees free food catered by Pizza Luce, preferred seating, access to an exclusive bar & private restrooms. VIP seating is limited and wristbands will not be available for purchase at the door.
